Dr. Mary Massey, an educator and author of children's literature who has published three books highlighting the concept of multiple intelligences, spoke with the students of W.S. Harlan Elementary School on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2018. Dr. Massey used Ellie Rae Discovers Eight Ways to Be SMART, her first book, to illustrate to the students their dominant intelligences, while also emphasizing that they all have all eight intelligences and can strengthen each as they learn and grow.  Dr. Massey also spoke to students in English and gifted classes about how to write and publish books.

Dr. Massey has recently published the first three books in a series of children's books introducing Howard Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences (MI) to children and their parents through age-appropriate story concepts and vibrant illustrations.  Her first book, Ellie Rae Discovers Eight Ways to Be SMART has recieved numerous awards - the New Apple Literacy Award and the Purple Dragon Award in Education.  The SMART Parts Series has also received the Mom's Choice Award.
